Suitable substrates

The varnish adheres particularly well to numerous materials: - Wood: e.g., spruce panels, MDF, OSB, hardboard, solid wood, plywood, chipboard, veneered or laminated components - Metals: iron, steel, zinc, aluminum, copper, brass - Plastics: rigid PVC, Resopal, polyester, polyamide, ABS (preliminary tests are recommended) - Existing coatings: sound coatings can be recoated after sanding

With exotic woods like teak, adhesion problems can occur – we recommend preliminary tests.

Preparing the substrate

Good preparation is key to a perfect result: - Wood: Always clean, dry, dust-free, and grease-free. Sand new wood in the direction of the grain, clean thoroughly, remove resins, and break edges. Sand old, untreated wood down to sound wood. Clean and sand already coated wood, and completely remove any loose old coatings. - Metals (zinc, aluminum, steel, copper, brass): Remove rust and corrosion products, and thoroughly clean surfaces. For zinc, a special cleaning method (e.g., with diluted ammonia and a wetting agent) has proven effective. Then prime with Jaeger Aqua-Multigrund. - Plastics: Clean thoroughly with an all-purpose cleaner, rinse, sand finely (280–320 grit), and wipe with denatured alcohol. - Existing coatings: Check for adhesion and sand. If unsure, conduct preliminary tests.

Tip: For wood used outdoors or in damp rooms, additional blue stain protection impregnation is recommended.
